How does laser work?

Laser hair removal works by the light of the laser being absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light then goes down to the base of the hair, which is the hair follicle, and tries to destroy it by heating it up. Doing that gets rid of the unwanted hair.

For laser to effectively work, the hair must be targeted in its active stage of growth to prevent it from re-growing. All the hairs are at different stages of growth at any one time, this is why multiple sessions are needed at 4-6 weeks intervals to get really good long lasting and permanent results. With each laser session the hair will become weaker and the growth will slow down. Medical grade lasers are suitable for both men and women and can be done on the full body. Most popular areas of laser treatment are face hair, bikini hair, underarms, leg hair, chin, back and chest.

Who can get laser done?

Unwanted hair may be natural or due to underlying medical reasons such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) or medication. If you just want to go with a hair removal method which is easier, faster, long lasting and painless as compared to traditional methods of hair removal, then laser hair removal is the right choice for you.

Anyone that wants to remove unwanted hair can get laser done. Both men and women can get laser hair removal.

Frequently asked Questions

Yes, backed by scientific research and case studies we use Soprano Ice laser hair removal system which is FDA approved and safe for all skins. Shumaila's has been established for over 20 years, and we are proud to say that we have carried out thousands of laser treatments with great results and no side affects.
No, skin cancer is caused by Ultraviolet (UV) light exposure. Laser hair removal equipment does not emit UV rays. At Shumaila's we work with medical grade lasers that work at 808nm wavelength, which are scientifically researched, FDA approved and do not cause cancer.
Some lasers can be painful or uncomfortable, however at Shumaila's we use the Soprano ICE platform which represents a new era in laser hair removal technology. With its ICE technology, Soprano is virtually PAIN FREE – less than waxing, threading, IPL or electrolysis. A lot of clients find the treatment quite relaxing.
This depends on a range of factors, with multiple sessions the targeted hair will become finer and the growth will slow down. Generally 8-12 sessions may be required for long lasting and permanent reduction, some people need less, some more.

If you suffer from PCOS or Hirsutism, generally more sessions are needed but the results are fantastic as the growth of hair slows down and the treatment is not needed so frequently.
Initially your sessions will be every 4-6 weeks on the Face, and every 6-8 weeks on the Body.

After a few sessions as the hair growth slows down, the gaps between the sessions will also increase. Eventually you will only need to visit once or twice a year for maintenance.
No, the medical grade laser which we use is used in top level clinics worldwide, achieving superior results. It does not cause skin trauma, but instead it works by gradually heating the dermis to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles, preventing them from growing back. The hair follicles are not exposed to a single pulse of high energy, which can injure the skin, but rather receive multiple, short, low energy pulses until enough heat energy is generated to damage the hair follicle.

- IPL’s are not Lasers

- IPL is a cheaper, less effective technology for reducing body hair as compared to Laser

- Lasers are safe for all skin colours, whereas IPL is only suitable for lighter skin tones.

- Laser technology is simply much more effective, and achieves substantially better results than IPL

- Lasers are far more precise, the heat is absorbed by the follicle and not the skin, therefore there is a decreased risk of burning when using Laser machines – this makes laser a safer option for darker skinned individuals as compared to IPL

- IPL is painful
You can't have laser done if you have one of the following conditions:

When you are ready to start your laser treatment at Shumaila's, the following will be explained to you at your free consultation.

PRE-TREATMENT ADVICE TO CLIENTS

Please arrive to the salon with the area to be treated already shaved.

Protect the skin from sun (UV) exposure with suitable clothing and SPF 30 before first treatment and between subsequent treatment sessions

Do not tan using tanning beds, self-tan products or by sun exposure between treatment.

No waxing, tweezing, plucking or threading of the hairs is permitted between treatments, as a root must be present in the follicle in order for the laser to work.

Shaving is permitted as often as you wish between treatments.

Do not use bleaching creams, perfumed products (e.g. aromatherapy oils, deodorants, body sprays) for 24/48 hrs before treatment sessions

Avoid exfoliating, microdermabrasion or peels for 1 week before treatment sessions

Avoid wearing tight clothing when attending for treatment sessions

Keep the area clean and dry
Yes absolutely, in fact a lot of our clients have PCOS and have achieved great results with laser hair removal.
Before arriving to the clinic for your 1st treatment, you need to have clean shaven the area that you would like treated. It is vital that no hairs are missed, as the laser energy would be wasted on the surface rather than travelling right down to the root of the hair follicle. The better you shave, the more effective and better your treatment results will be.

Many people are afraid and put off, as they do not want to shave the FACE area. However it is important to understand that shaving will not result in thicker hair in this instant. This is because we target the roots of the hairs to slow the growth permanently. So there is nothing to worry about!

After each treatment, it will take the targeted hairs 2-3 weeks to be pushed out of the hair follicle. During this time it will appear as though the hair is continuing to grow as normal, but then just begin to fall out of the skin. No waxing, tweezing, plucking or threading of the hairs should be done between treatments, but you can shave as often as you wish.
You should start to see results from your very 1st session. Best results will be seen after a course of treatment.
